Become a Trustee

Could you be a trustee at Safety4Sisters?

We are seeking women to join our friendly board of trustees and support the organisation as we continue to grow and develop.

We are recruiting for general trustee positions, and for the following specific roles:

Chair

  • Experience of working in the violence against women and girls (VAWG) or human rights sector.

  • Proven experience in a leadership or governance role, demonstrating the ability to lead and inspire a diverse group of trustees and stakeholders.

Treasurer

  • Appropriate accountancy qualifications and/or financial management experience.

  • Knowledge or experience of charity finance and fundraising.

When I came here [S4S] I was empty. I had no money, nothing, only one dress. I did not know where to go. When I came to S4S, I was able to shower, have food and was given money. I said is this really my money? In the past I was not allowed any money.

Safety4Sisters has a friendly and dynamic board of trustees, and new trustees will have opportunities for personal and professional growth as part of a supportive team.

We hold four board meetings a year, along with a range of subcommittee working groups. Meetings are a mix of online and in-person in central Manchester.

We are only seeking women for this role as the Occupational Requirement Under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. As a By and For specialist organisation, we aim for the majority of our trustees to be Black and minoritised women. We specifically encourage women with an experience of the migration system to apply for these roles.

To find out more about us, or have an initial informal chat about the roles, please email trustees@safety4sisters.org. We will require applicants to complete an application form and attend an interview.
