‘This is Me’ – A Collaborative Play by Safety4Sisters Writing Group
Since the launch of This Is We in March 2022, members of the group have continued to write. Some have been granted indefinite leave. Some are still awaiting responses to asylum applications. Some are working full-time and/or studying and are firmly on their way to rebuilding their lives. They write in varied forms including poetry, testimony or short fiction. The fortnightly workshops for the second series of workshops began in April 2023 facilitated by Halla Akhdar, Safety4Sisters Group and Projects co-ordinator and writer Amber Lone.
The workshops led to the creation of This is Me, a powerful collaborative play born from the voices of migrant women survivors of domestic violence. Through poetry, testimony, and drama, the play explores the realities of domestic violence, racism and the systemic obstacles these women face in their fight for safety and dignity.
Drawing on personal experiences of abuse, displacement, and resilience, This is Me weaves together diverse voices to shed light on the intersection of migrant status and survival.
